Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, squirrels are a common sight in Winnipeg trees, yards, and parks.

Where they are much less appreciated is when they’re camping out inside your home.  Squirrels can enter a building through holes, vents, or gaps in the building envelope, especially near the roof.  Once they are living in your attic, you’ll probably hear them in your walls, and maybe even see them running into a bedroom or trying to escape out a window.

There are several types of squirrels in Manitoba – red squirrels, grey squirrels, and even flying squirrels! Remember, they may look cute, but squirrels are wild animals. If they are agitated they could bite you or attack a pet.

One of the biggest problems with squirrels is the destruction they cause. They often chew electrical wires, eat through insulation, and will use your home as their toilet. They can also die in hard-to-reach places and begin to smell terrible.

Squirrels in an attic are a fire hazard; chewing through wires can create an electrical short or even a fire. As well, they make their nests with dry twigs, leaves, hair, and scraps of cloth. This could easily act as tinder and start a fire.

If you have squirrels in your home or commercial building, you have a big problem, but don’t fret! Contact us at GL Pest Control.
